The idea for this website began at the Google Teacher Academy in Mountain View, CA in July 2014. As a part of the professional growth experience, participants were asked to participate in an action plan to apply all that we had learned in terms of a Moonshot proposal. We were challenged to identify a huge problem, dream up a radical solution, and consider breakthrough technologies to solve for X. We thought about our students, who are innovative, curious, tech natives. We wanted to increase these students' “buy in” in education, and we wanted to find ways to value their skills and integrate them with the curriculum. What would be better than to lead our students in changing technology integration for their communities?
Sandra Chow, Michelle Green, Caren MacConnell, and Shelly Stanton banned together and began collaborating on the development of ideas and resources for supporting students in becoming leaders in technology integration and innovation via Student Technology Squads in our schools, districts, and communities. The result was the start of a great professional learning network, a presentation at ISTE 2015, and this website.
Our hope is that this collaboration will expand and grow with the knowledge and expertise of other like-minded educators. We welcome your ideas, experience, and resources. If you would like to contribute to this work, please join the Google+ Community, Student Tech Squads.
